SOC proudly sponsored this year’s Diplomatic Security Foundation (DSF) charity golf event, which was started by Mike Considine in 1990. With more than 350 attendees and golfers, this year’s event took place at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia on Monday, June 3rd. The attendees are current and former Diplomatic Security Special Agents, other members of the law enforcement community, as well as corporations and contractors that support the Bureau of Diplomatic Security like SOC. Every year the Diplomatic Security Foundation hosts this important annual charity golf outing, which is the main fundraiser that brings in more than $200,000 for the organization. With the funds raised from last year’s event, in 2018, they provided more than $100,000 in grants to those suffering a hardship or crisis and $30,000 in scholarships among the Diplomatic Security workforce and community.
“These funds directly impact the lives of our partners within the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, including Diplomatic Security Special Agents, U.S. Marine Security Guards, and local guards at U.S. Embassies around the world, as well as others in the law enforcement and U.S. foreign affairs community — working side-by-side our workforce in high threat areas around the world,” stated Steve Selfridge, President, SOC. “As we work to show our appreciation to those serving on the front lines, I encourage you to join us in thanking the Diplomatic Security Community for their duty and daily sacrifice as the silent hand that protects the U.S. Department of State,” he added.
Grants and scholarships are provided both to U.S. Diplomatic Security Team members and local nationals, as well as local law enforcement personnel who safeguard U.S. personnel and interests around the world.
About DSF
The Diplomatic Security Foundation (DSF) was founded in 1995 as a charitable, non-profit organization to provide financial assistance to Diplomatic Security* (U.S. Department of State) personnel as well as their foreign affairs/law enforcement counterparts both at home and abroad. DSF is specifically designed to provide monetary support (usually one-time grants) to persons or families that have some nexus to DS. DSF has no membership, membership dues and does not sell products. DSF is a separate entity from the Diplomatic Security Special Agents Association (DSSAA). DSF operated under the name Diplomatic Security Special Agents Foundation until 2008.
DSF is a registered 501 (c) (3) charity, and all contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. The funds raised by DSF are utilized in a variety of ways including but not limited to:
- survivor payments to family members of DS personnel, local guards and foreign police officers who lose their lives while performing duties associated with the protection of US facilities and personnel abroad.
- contributions to local police officers/families from whom DS receives support, in event of death/serious illness.
- contributions to trust/scholarship funds for families of DS personnel who are killed/die of illness while on duty.
- contributions to cover unexpected needs (medical costs, natural disaster losses, etc).
- a scholarship program for college-bound students.
