(Los Alamos, New Mexico) November 13, 2014 - SOC LLC, a leading provider of integrated security, critical infrastructure solutions and mission support services around the world, is leading a statewide effort to contribute to Wreaths Across America at Santa Fe National Cemetery, New Mexico. As part of a campaign to lay a wreath at every soldier’s grave for the holidays, on December 13, wreath-laying ceremonies will simultaneously take place in national cemeteries across the country.
SOC, along with partners from The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Community Programs Office, are fundraising and organizing this year’s event in New Mexico. The wreath-purchasing campaign commenced on Veterans Day and will continue until December 1. The SOC and LANL teams will be there in advance of the ceremony, December 13, opening and preparing all wreaths for placement.
“Last year we were joined by more than 400 community members, where families, youth groups, local businesses and New Mexico Freedom Riders, all gathered to honor our servicemen and women by placing more than 2,800 wreaths,” said Liddie Martinez, Government Relations, SOC. “This is our fifth year participating in this growing event, which is a unique fundraiser where we are able to show the next generation a powerful way to honor our military,” she added. Volunteers will place 2 to 4 wreaths each, allowing them to thoughtfully dedicate the wreath by reading the veteran’s name and information out loud. Dedicated sections of the Santa Fe National Cemetery are rotated each year to ensure the inclusion of all service members throughout the grounds.
As part of Wreaths Across America’s 150th Anniversary, Arlington National Cemetery is hoping to gather 25,000 volunteers to lay wreaths on 235,000 graves in total this year. For more information or to donate locally (by selecting your state map), visit: Wreaths Across America
About Wreaths Across America – Wreaths Across America is an annual tribute to Veterans, which started in 1992 in Arlington Cemetery. In 2005, after a photo of the graves at Arlington, adorned with wreaths and covered in snow, circulated around the internet, thousands of requests poured in from all over the country from people wanting to help with Arlington, to emulate the Arlington project at their National and State cemeteries, or to simply share their stories and thank the group for honoring our nation’s heroes. Unable to donate thousands of wreaths to each state, the first efforts began by sending seven wreaths to every state, one for each branch of the military, and for POW/MIAs. In 2006, with the help of the Civil Air Patrol and other civic organizations, simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies were held at over 150 locations around the country.
